While the best ever elevated offer on the Southwest business cards have ended, do not despair on still being able to earn the Southwest Companion Pass for nearly all of 2026 and all of 2027. You just will need to go the traditional route of earning your Companion Pass now! I’m Leen with Leen on Travel, and I’ll share with you all the steps you need to know to get buy-one-get-one-free airfare with Southwest Airlines through December 31, 2027!

So to start- What is a Southwest Companion Pass?
With a Southwest Companion Pass, you get a companion to fly free with you (+$5.60 in taxes; more if flying internationally), every single time that you fly, for 2 solid years. You simply need to acquire 135,000 Southwest Rapid Rewards points in a single-calendar year to qualify. There is no trading in your points to earn the Companion Pass, rather, earning those points in one-calendar year is what qualifies you for it. You can also change your companion three times each year, once your old companion has completed their flight with you.

How do you do this?
You are going to get approved for a Southwest business credit card, and a Southwest personal credit card. You are going to earn 85,000 Southwest points from the personal card, and 60,000 points from the Southwest business card, totaling 145,000 points. That is 10,000 more points than necessary to qualify, which is again 135,000 points earned in the same calendar year. Both cards require spending $3,000 on each of them in 3 months. Including the required spending, you’ll actually minimally earn 151,000 Southwest points. And again, all of those points are yours to use to book free flights for yourself, with you getting a designated companion to fly for free with you too. Absolutely incredible!
