The state cabinet on Friday approved a new market intervention scheme named “CM Assure”, from its Sohra retreat. It has been launched to support farmers in distress. The initiative, which seeks to stabilise market prices for non-perishable agricultural products, includes a ₹100 crore corpus fund, with ₹20 crore initial allocations from the central government.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma highlighted the importance of this scheme in a press briefing after the first day of the Sohra Cabinet retreat, which included 13 agendas. He pointed out the fluctuations in market prices, especially for non-perishables like broomsticks and areca nuts, emphasising the need for government intervention to help farmers during such challenges.

Through CM Assure, the government will procure non-perishable items from farmers at fair prices via marketing boards and resell them to maintain market stability. This initiative aims to reduce farmers' financial strain and provide a safety net during periods of low demand or fluctuating prices.
