As full-time RVers, we're always looking for unique, peaceful places to park our 40' motorhome. This week, we found a hidden gem in Virginia's beautiful Shenandoah area: Fort Valley Ranch & Campground.

But first, we had to get there! We'd heard the route could be difficult, especially for big rigs. The key is to take it slow. There are two routes you can take: Edinburgh pass which is recommended by the campground or Virginia 678 from Front Royal, Virgina. The pass has one difficult switchback to maneuver but that route is significantly shorter than 678. Since 678 is narrow and winding it would have taken about an hour to drive that route with the motorhome (it took over 45 minutes with just our Jeep), but the pass took us only about 24 minutes with the motorhome.

Spoiler: Absolutely! This isn't a highly manicured "RV resort." Fort Valley Ranch offers beautiful, rustic sites, which we typically prefer. It's incredibly quiet, peaceful, and family-operated, offering a perfect escape.

The main attraction here is definitely the horseback riding! We went on an amazing trail ride – Timothy rode Ben and Jeff rode Tigger (who were both fantastic!). They also offer other activities like archery.
