Doing anything DIY can be tough. Verticutting is no exception to that rule. The steps are simple, verticut, run over the yard with your rotary mower, repeat, but the act of actually doing the work.... let's just say... exhausting. I had recently started to get scalp marks in my lawn from my mower gouging into the turf and removing the top green layer. Bermudagrass is especially susceptible to this kind of issue, because only the top third of the plant is green. I chose to take matters in my own hands with a drastic DIY verticutting lawn project. Verticutting, similar to dethatching or scarifying removes material from beneath your top grass layer and opens up the canopy of your turf. Thinning out the turf can allow sunlight, water, and other nutrients to more easily access the soil layer. Sometimes this cultural practice can also be useful if your lawn has grown too thick and spongey, which is the case with my lawn. 30,000 steps later, I'm finished, and now I'm just playing the waiting game for my lawn to green up yet again! #verticut #dethatch #scarify #lawnscalping
