In this lesson we'll examine how a generic motor drive rectifies incoming 3 phase AC with a fixed magnitude and frequency entirely into DC, then inverts it into outgoing 3 phase AC with a variable magnitude and frequency. We'll discuss pulse width modulation (PWM )inversion and how three properties: fundamental frequency, modulation index, and carrier frequency respectively influence frequency, magnitude, and quality of the output voltage waveform.
