How to change Spark Plugs on a BMW G8X M3/M4 (S58) | DIY | 4K

So after putting a little over 11,000 miles on our 2023 G80 M3 in ten months, we noticed the M3 started to demonstrate a rough idle. It wasn't horrible, but just annoying enough to look into it.

No misfire's were occurring - nor were any codes stored for anything out of the norm. On the contrary (not spark plug related) - there were TON's of faults stored in the HUH (head unit). The next step logically was to replace the spark plugs. When running a tuned vehicle - it's advised to replace plugs around 15,000 miles. Our G80 is stock and running 93 octane, but it is driven hard on a daily basis.

BMW uses NGK as the OE supplier for their spark plugs. The replacement plug used was NGK 96206. The plug was gapped to 0.022". To gain access to the spark plugs, you'll need to remove the strut braces and engine cover first. From there, there disconnect the oxygen sensors atop cylinder 6. Then, remove the bracket holding the oxygen sensors and remove the connector to the rear HPFP. Once that is done, move the bracket and harness out of the way to gain access to the ignition coil hold down bolt. Remove coil, then remove spark plug. Rinse and repeat five more times!
