The call to remove racist symbols from statues to street names continues to increase globally, with some of the former being defaced or toppled, and some are being taken down by officials due to public pressure. Eric Sorensen reports on a similar push in Canada, including Dundas Street in Toronto as the man it was named after, Henry Dundas, had blocked Britain’s abolition of slavery.

Jackson Proskow takes a look at the backlash the U.S. is also facing including a statue of Christopher Columbus being toppled in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the push to rename military bases named after Confederate generals.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the Liberal government was unable to get the support needed to fast-track emergency legislation which would punish fraudsters who illegally obtained the Canada Emergency Response Benefit. The bill, however, would also provide a one-time payment to those receiving the disability tax credit and extend the CERB to more seasonal workers. David Akin reports on what’s at stake.

While universities and colleges felt the impact of COVID-19, one cohort they rely on for funding - international students - feel left out as they are unable to access government benefits brought in during the pandemic. Mike Le Couteur reports there are concerns among some international students whether they will be able to finish their degree before their student visas expire.
