Maharishi Krishnadvaipayan Vedavyasa was the author of the Mahabharata text. Krishnadvaipayana was the son of Vedavyasa Maharishi Parashara and Satyavati. The Mahabharata was written by Lord Ganesha after listening to Maharishi Ved Vyas. Ved Vyas has not only been the author of Mahabharata, but has also been a witness to the events which have happened sequentially. Information about all the activities of Hastinapur from his ashram used to reach him. He also used to give his advice on those incidents. Whenever there was a situation of conflict and crisis, Mother Satyavati would sometimes reach the ashram to discuss with him, and sometimes invite him to the Raj Bhavan in Hastinapur. In every Dwapar Yuga, Vishnu incarnated as Vyasa and presented the divisions of the Vedas. In the first Dwapar Brahma himself was Ved Vyas, in the second Prajapati, in the third Dwapar Shukracharya, in the fourth Brihaspati Ved Vyas. Similarly, there were twenty-eight Ved Vyas like Surya, Mrityu, Indra, Dhanjaya, Krishna Dvaipayana, Ashwatthama etc. Thus the Vedas were divided twenty-eight times. It is believed that the name "Ved Vyasa" is a title rather than an actual name because Krishna Dvaipayana compiled the four Vedas.
