Game Changer
My dog, a young Blue Heeler mix I got from an animal shelter last February, has a nipping problem with some folks and is very aggressive towards other dogs. A nationally known trainer recommended a basket muzzle. I bought the Baskerville Ultra from Amazon and it arrived last Monday. On Tuesday and Wednesday, I followed their advice on acclimating him to wearing it, taking my time with yummy treats and praise. Thursday, I took him for a long walk on a public trail. Yesterday, when I made the attached video, we went on a longer walk. He actually seems to look forward to having it on! So, in four days, we went from constantly planning an escape route if we saw other people or dogs coming, to peaceful walking. Company of Animals helped me figure out the proper size and were elated with the video, concurring that this was the right one. The peace of mind is a wonderful feeling! Other walkers actually thanked me for getting it, realizing that if he nips at them or their dog, there is miniscule chance of any enjury. As for comfort, I can only say he very quickly stopped trying to take it off, and I haven't noticed any rubbing yet. Every dog's snout is different. It can be molded for a better fit, but I haven't seen the need yet. He's actually calmer when he's wearing it! I may update this down the road, but I wanted to show how fast dogs can adapt to wearing it, even high strung dogs, when you follow the recommended steps.
