On the 12th day of August, we ascend to the highest peak of Palawan. Mount Mantalingahan is the highest peak in the province of Palawan, Philippines, at 2,088 meters (6,850 feet) above sea level. Located in the St. Paul Mountain Range, it is a prominent geological feature and a popular destination for hikers and adventure seekers. The mountain is known for its lush forests, scenic views, and diverse wildlife, making it a valuable habitat for several endangered species. The climb to the summit is considered challenging due to its rugged terrain and unpredictable weather conditions. Still, the breathtaking views of the surrounding islands and the sense of accomplishment make it a rewarding experience for those who reach the top.
We also encounter the Tau't Batu (Cavemen) tribe, an indigenous tribe living in the Palawan province of the Philippines. They are a small community of around 200 people, mostly living in the St. Paul Mountain Range, Palawan. The Tau't Batu have their own distinct language and culture and are known for their expertise in hunting and gathering. They have a deep connection with the forest and its resources and have a strong sense of community and tradition. Despite their isolation, the Tau't Batu have been exposed to modern influences and are facing challenges such as land encroachment, deforestation, and disease, which threaten their way of life. Efforts are being made to preserve their culture and protect their ancestral lands, but more support is needed to ensure their survival.
