There are 10 things you should know about the Elf on the Shelf. First, know that Elves arrive from the North Pole to their child’s home at different times. Our elf arrives each year on December 1st. When will your elf arrive? Second, it’s important that a family names his or her elf. Our elf’s name is Osgood — named after CBS Sunday mornings’ former host, Charles Osgood. Our sons favorite show. What’s your elf’s name? Third, know that your elf is a scout for Santa. He or she arrives at your home to observe your child’s behavior — so they better be good for goodness sake! Fourth, even though elves don’t move during the day, they are not only good observers, they are also good listeners. Children and parents should not hesitate talking to their elves about anything from the gifts they want to their good deeds. Fifth, know that each night, while children are sleeping, the elf on the shelf returns to the North Pole to report back to Santa. This elf reporting helps Santa know who should be on his naughty or nice list. Sixth, when children awake in the morning, they will find their elf (just back from visiting Santa) in a new spot. You’ll be amazed at all of the different and often creative spots you’ll discover these little elves. Children look forward to finding him each morning. Seventh, although elves don’t speak to children directly, they often deliver messages through the written word in the form of notes. What message will your elf present? Eighth, It’s important not to touch an elf on the shelf or he or she will lose their Christmas magic (although accidents do happen and the magic can be return). Ninth, before Christmas Day, elves return to the North Pole to give Santa their final report.
