The government has ordered the disposal of contaminated eggs and all of the processed products made with them, but this has done little to reduce consumer anxiety. A new term, "egg phobia," has been coined recently to describe how anxious consumers are about eating eggs.

Customers stand in a long line early in the morning in front of a store specializing in eco-friendly produce. They came here to buy eco-friendly eggs. Each customer is allowed to buy only ten eggs.

[Soundbite] "Do you only sell one pack per person?"

Even though these eggs cost up to 20 percent as much as regular eggs, they sell out in no time.

[Soundbite] Hong Hyun-joo(Seoul Resident) : "You have to come here even before they open to buy eggs. I only get to buy eggs here every other week."

Meanwhile, the egg sections at large supermarket chains are deserted. Despite the government inspection into the egg scandal, consumers still don't feel safe about eggs on sale. Growing numbers of consumers prefer to buy tofu and sweet pumpkin instead of eggs. Toast kiosks have even cut the prices of their products in return for using zero eggs. The Korean Medical Association has announced that although eggs containing insecticides do not pose any serious threat to health, they are not completely safe, either. The association said that the recent announcement by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety regarding egg safety was too hasty.
