Timecode is a sequence of numbers representing a point in time. In video production and editing, it is used to sync media. It’s read HH:MM:SS:FF (hours:minutes:seconds:frames) and some editors display subframes. The frame rate varies depending on the video format.

On the Edit page, DaVinci Resolve makes it incredibly easy to edit in timecode. All you need to do is to type +/- (plus or minus) and the number of the timecode. Plus moves the playhead further in time whereas minus brings the playhead back in time. If I type +5. (Plus five period) that will move my playhead five seconds further in time. The period is important. It lets Resolve know that I want seconds and not frames. If I would prefer, I could type +500.

Timecode displays are available for the source viewer and the timeline viewer and you navigate source media and timeline media by the same method. The number of the left side of the viewer represents where your playhead is. The number on the right side of the viewer is your media/timeline’s timecode. If I control/right-click on the timecode number itself, I am presented with a set of options to switch between timecode/frames or to copy and paste timecode.

If you would prefer menu options: Playback - Timecode - Increment or Decrement Timecode.

You can display a timecode viewer by going to Workspace - Timecode Viewer. This window floats and can be moved to a secondary monitor.
