‪@mcurios5777‬ India has a rich history of salt production that dates back to the Indus Valley Civilization and the Maurya Empire. The process of producing salt from seawater was described in the ancient scriptures and historical texts. It involved evaporating the seawater in shallow beds and then collecting the salt by raking off the surface. The trade affairs related to salt were well-documented in Kautalya's Arthashahstra, highlighting the importance of appointing a Superintendent of Salt or Lavanadhakshya to regulate production and trade. To ensure fair trade practices, each manufacturer had to buy a license and could either pay a fixed price or share a portion of the output with the Government. The Superintendent sold off the Government's portion of salt in the market. During the salt trade, six taxes were imposed- four paid by sellers and two by buyers.
