India is the only large country in the world where girl babies die than boy babies. There are 221 million unwanted girls in India. Girl child is often stunted the paramount in equality and patriarchal discrimination. The struggle begins even before the day she is conceived. In efforts to raise awareness on this issue, India celebrates the National Girl Child day each year on Jan 24th. The observation was started in 2008 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development. Late Indira Gandhi became the first woman Prime Minister of the country on 24 January in 1966. This is the reason why the government chose this special day to celebrate National Girl Child Day. This National Girl Child day let’s join together empowering women economically and socially, to provide protection to women against any harassment, lets join to help this sex stand for themselves with power.
