An Introduction to GEDI Ecosystem LIDAR

Описание к видео An Introduction to GEDI Ecosystem LIDAR

The Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation (GEDI) programme is an exciting initiative led jointly by NASA and the University of Maryland. Launched in 2018, the programme provides the first high-resolution spaceborne lidar-based dataset for the 3D structure of the Earth's surface. In this talk, A/Prof. Hao Tang introduces us to this novel technology for Earth observation and discusses some of its potential applications for nature-based climate solutions research.

About the speaker:
Assistant Professor Hao Tang - Department of Geography, NUS
A/Prof. Hao Tang has deep expertise in remote sensing of the environment. His research is centred on the remote sensing of the environment, with a focus on the use of satellites for mapping and monitoring forest dynamics under a changing climate. Prior to joining NUS, he was a remote sensing scientist at University of Maryland and served as Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator for multiple NASA research grants. He is also a NASA Earth and Space Science Fellow. Dr Tang is on the science team of NASA’s Carbon Monitoring System, and is a science team member and product lead of NASA’s Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation (or GEDI) mission. The GEDI mission is the first high-resolution LIDAR mounted on the International Space Station and is utilised for measuring the Earth’s forests and topography.
