Whether you are a born and bred Hullensian, or a newcomer to this great city of culture, then don’t miss the opportunity to be part of Hull on Film.

This amazing journey through the decades begins with the earliest days of filmmaking, through to the building and opening of the iconic Humber Bridge in 1981. Over 80 years of moving image history will be revealed, including World War I fundraising footage, rare shots of Amy Johnson, and an insight into the work of the Sailors’ Families Society at the Newlands Estate.

Relive the excitement of the famous Hull Fair, and in contrast reflect on the devastation left behind by the Luftwaffe in 1941. Experience the jubilation of VE Day celebrations across the city, followed by regeneration and renewal during the 1950s, sporting triumphs, the heyday and subsequent decline of Hull’s fishing industry, plus much, much more!

Capturing the sights, sounds, faces, places, changing landscapes and industries, great events and everyday lives of the people of Hull, this one-off event will reveal Hull’s rich and diverse film heritage curated especially for Hull2017 by the Yorkshire Film Archive in partnership with Hull Independent Cinema.

Led by Yorkshire Film Archive and Sheffield Doc/Fest, the project to bring Hull on Film to the big screen as part of Hull2017 is supported by the BFI, Film Hub North as part of a year of ‘transformative film culture for Hull’ during its reign as UK City of Culture.
