Global travel stocks are being battered about with the rest of the market but recovered slightly this past week. Inflation and rising interest rates are still spooking investors. Even strong summer travel isn’t enough to overcome the broader economic concerns as companies face rising costs. Let’s take a look at the 12 month stock performance of the top global travel companies.
Over the past year, the NEXT All Travel Index is down 18%. That stock index includes 100 global travel companies, including airlines, hotels, car rentals, travel technology, cruise lines, and more. The broader market SnP Index is now down 9% versus last year. All travel sectors are down year over year now. Cruise Lines and Gaming are down the most, 50% and 31% respectively. That’s followed by travel technology, online travel, and airlines.
Virtually all travel stocks are down as well. Here’s the 10 travel stocks that have been hit the worst over the past year: LATAM Airlines, Lyft, Avianca, Goal, Volaris, Penn Gaming, Caesars, Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and Uber. All down 49% or more since this time last year.
Currently, the world’s most valuable travel related companies are Walt Disney with a market cap of 188 billion, followed by Boeing at 94 billion, Airbus at 84 billion, then Booking, Airbnb, Marriott, Uber, Hilton, Las Vegas Sands, and Amadeus at 26 billion.
