Описание к видео New Yorker Speaks “Cajun” in Rural Louisiana, Locals Amazed

Go to https://www.expressvpn.com/xiaomanyc and find out how you can get 3 months of ExpressVPN free! We went around rural Louisiana speaking the endangered French-based creole language called Louisiana Creole. Yes, even though France last colonized Louisiana in 1803 there are still some people here who even though they grew up in America are actually native “French” speakers. But even though people here often refer to it as “French” it is completely different from what you hear in Paris – Louisiana Creole over the centuries has turned into a separate language that is not mutually intelligible with standard French. UNESCO classifies Louisiana Creole as severely endangered but me and Taalib   / tauguste5678  , Vice President of C.R.E.O.L.E., Inc. and a 12th generation Louisiana Creole speaker, went around rural Louisiana trying to see if we could find people who still spoke the language and the results were somewhat unexpected.

Note that Louisiana Creole is different from Cajun French, which is the dialect of standard French brought to Louisiana in the 18th century by Canadian French settlers from Acadia. Cajun French is still spoken in Louisiana, but confusingly often “Cajun” or “French” are used to refer to Creole.
