Dengue Fever is a viral (ভাইরাস সংগ্রহীত / বিষাক্ত ) disease  which is caused by mosquito bites. It is transmitted through  Aedes mosquitoes. When an affected person is bitten by mosquito,  it bears the virus and when it bites any man of sound health, he/ she gets infected. Symptoms typically begin three to fourteen days after infection. These may include a high fever, severe headache, vomiting, muscle and joint pains and a characteristic skin rash (ফুসকুড়ি). If someone is infected by the dengue virus and starts to show symptoms of dengue fever, immediate actions should be taken. Otherwise, it can cause severe fever which is known as severe dengue fever and it can even cause death.


There is no specific antibiotic to treat dengue fever. Antiviral (সংক্রামক রোগাদির বীজনাশক) medications are also not indicated for dengue fever. Treatment of acute dengue is supportive care. Paracetamol is recommended for fever reduction and pain relief. Taking sufficient rest is also important. ( For more severe cases, blood transfusion (পরিব্যাপ্তি) may be required. However, there is a proverb "Prevention is better than cure. " So ) everybody should take preventive  measures to avoid dengu fever.


First of all, our environment should be kept clean so that it doesn’t become the habitat of mosquitos. Generally, 'Aedes mosquitoes' lay eggs near standing water in containers that hold water, like buckets, bowls, animal dishes, flower pots and vases (ফুলদানি).  So we have to destroy such habitat of mosquitos to prevent dengu fever. ( Besides, it is a good practice to use mosquito net all the time to prevent the dengue virus. Wearing a thick cloth that covers much of the body is also a good way of avoiding mosquito bites. )


As dengue fever can be a severe problem especially in this season, the government should take necessary steps to fight  against dengue fever. Public awareness should also be raised in this regard.
