In this driving video, we explore Baegot New Town, located in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province. The name "Baegot" is a pure Korean word meaning "a place to learn," and at the center of the city lies the expansive site of Seoul National University’s Siheung Campus.

Baegot New Town was developed on reclaimed tidal flats along Korea’s west coast, with construction beginning in 2009. Unlike other major new towns led by the central government, it is the first large-scale urban development in Korea planned and carried out entirely by a local government—Siheung City.

It is also the largest new town developed in Korea since the 2000s. As of now, most of the development is complete, except for parts of the SNU campus.

Thanks to its pleasant living environment and well-established infrastructure, Baegot New Town has grown steadily—its population has increased from an initially planned 56,000 to around 70,000 residents today.
