Incredible FISHING SPOTS at the end of the world

Описание к видео Incredible FISHING SPOTS at the end of the world

We discover some of the best land based sea fishing options in the far south of New Zealand.
Invercargill is a fishing and hunting paradise.

Most people probably associate the southland with some world-class trout fishing. But in this video we rather focus on the great sea fishing options.

The most common target species down south are Flounder, Blue Cod, Blue Moki and Trumpeter, Greenbone/Butterfish, Kahawai, Rig, Gurnard, Searun trout, Paua and Crayfish. There's also a chance of catching Salmon in some of the river mouths.

The coastline of Invercargill is a mix of wild beaches, huge estuaries, rocky ledges and incredibly beautiful scenery. Due to the low population and often wild weather most places receive very low fishing pressure. You will often not see another soul while you are fishing. This adds to the remote feel

1. The first stop is Fortrose at the very end of the Catlins region.
Fortrose is situated at the mouth of the Mataura river, one of New Zealand's best brown trout fisheries. The mouth forms a large estuary with a fairly small entrance to the open sea.

2. If you love surfcasting, you gotta check out Fraser beach. It's only a few kilometres south from Fortrose. This is a steep, shelving sandy beach with a rocky point at the northern end.

3. Awarua bay is a huge estuary towards the east of Bluff harbour. It is an excellent spot for safe boating and kayaking.

4. The coastline around the Bluff harbour entrance has lots of seaweed, which limits the surfcasting and rockfishing options a bit. But it's a great spot for diving and wharf fishing.

5. Oreti Beach is a long shallow sandy beach. It is another good surf casting option close to Invercargill. You can expect to catch rig, gurnard and even elephant fish here. Best baits are crabs and prawns.

6. The riverton rocks on the eastern side are a good option for rock fishing while the kelpy areas at the southern side provide good diving opportunities.

7. Colac bay is a good option for surfcasting for rig and gurnard. Also good for launching boats.

8. Cosy nook is probably one of the most beautiful fishing spots in New Zealand. Fish life is plentiful here.

9. Our last fishing spot near Invercargill is monkey island. Using a two hook ledger rig, baited with crabs scored us a big rig shark at this beach.
