STORYLINE:
A tour bus overturned on a highway in southern Egypt on Tuesday, killing 14 tourists from Hong Kong and injuring 30 other people, some seriously, Egyptian officials said.
The bus was on the outskirts of the Red Sea resort of Hurghada, heading toward the ancient historic city of Luxor, when it rolled over while speeding around a bend in the highway, said Egypt's Middle East News Agency.
One of the tourists from Hong Kong said the driver was speeding, and he thought that the combination of the speed and a poorly negotiated turn around the bend caused the accident.
The man went on to describe many people trapped beneath the overturned bus. "Most people die like that. My wife died," the injured man said, becoming emotional as he spoke at the General Hospital of Hurghada.
According to the hospital's director, the injuries ranged from serious to moderate or good.
The tour guide, an Egyptian who also was wounded, was in fair condition, he said.
According to a spokesman for the tour agency in Hong Kong, forty-three tourists were on the bus, including 16 men, 24 women and three children., said a spokesman for the tour
All of the dead and wounded from the crash were from Hong Kong with the exception of the tour guide.
Earlier on Tuesday, a truck crashed into a different bus in southern Egypt, leaving 18 people dead.
The bus was carrying Coptic Christians returning from an annual visit
to a monastery.
Another 24 people were injured according to police.
The bus overturned and fell into a river near Isna, about 530 kilometres (330 miles) south of Cairo.
