Is Return of the Jedi (1983) Where the Problems Begin with Star Wars

I like Return of the Jedi more than your average family adventure film but ultimately I think compared to Empire Strikes Back and A New Hope the third film is a step down from the care and emotional stakes of the Episode IV and V. I do think Return of the Jedi is better than the prequels and probably the sequels, but only because it came first; the later films I have problems with seem to draw from the same well that Return of the Jedi did.
