Colter Wall’s killer tune. This has nothing to do with talented actor/comedian Kate McKinnon! This is a song by a singer/songwriter Colter Wall. I cut my teeth on singing here- not in my comfort zone- but lot's of fun anyway! Thanks to "Kono" Kenny "Big Chicken" Konoski here for recommending this song to me for the episode. There are many serious themes in this song- domestic violence is discussed briefly. As with all the killer tunes- they are complex and operate on an artistic level foremost. In no way is the inclusion of this song condoning or promoting violence in any form- in fact the opposite is true. An unflinching look at elements of society in the controlled lens of a ballad sheds light on these topics and our discussion can lead to greater awareness. The chords are broken down for your ease of use- should you choose to attempt it on guitar. If you like this ep- please go on to the others on this playlist. In the immortal words of Tom Stock, "Be Well, do good works, let's keep in touch, bye-bye."

Lyrics:
Well, the raven is a wicked bird, his wings are black as sin
And he floats outside my prison window mocking those within
And he sings to me real low, it's hell to where you go
For you did murder Kate McCannon
When I first met Tom McCannon, I was working in the mines
Said he had himself a dark-haired daughter with long, green eyes
And when she and I did meet, she was bathing in the creek
Prettiest girl in the whole damn holler, that ain't no lie
So I went a courtin' Kate McCannon
Got me a job and I quit my ramblin'
And every day, I'd save a quarter of my pay
I could buy a diamond ring
Lord, and one day I come home to find
My darlin' angel's not inside
So I made for the creek
Where she and I did meet
And found her with some other lover
And I put three rounds into Kate McCannon
