I loved the NES. It was the first home system I owned that really gave me that feeling of a great playing arcade game. Here we look at some of my favorite early titles for it, often referred to as the "Black Box" games.

Episode Notes:

1. All games captured on the NES Classic Edition.

2. The Gumshoe you see in the title sequence is the MAME arcade version. My setup is all LCD, so no light guns.

3. There has been some controversy over the actual release date of Super Mario Bros. I can tell you from my recollection that it was not released in 1985 originally. It was in early 1986 when my friend got it, and it was a new release.

4. I got my NES for Xmas in 1986. My mother believed in giving me something good for the holidays, so while the year was lean on presents, I always got something good at the end.

5. I wouldn't play the Sega Master System until some time after I played the NES, and that was only because my best friend got it. It would still be awhile before I owned my own SMS. The NES remained the center of my gaming world until the Genesis showed up.
