Released in 1998 for PlayStation 1 (unfortunately, no Saturn version), Nascar '99 features several drivers from the 1998 season and some more tracks, as well as introducing audio commands from the crew chief, strategy tips for pit stops, and warnings about nearby cars. Support for DualShock with vibration feedback was also integrated into the game.

Overall, it is an improvement over its predecessor in terms of content and visuals, but with few or no updates in terms of collision detection with other vehicles and driving physics, at least compared to the much more advanced racing game released by Papyrus in 1996.

Graphically speaking, however, there are some notable improvements, such as a wider variety of vehicle models and, especially, the beautiful projection of shadows under the player's vehicle and rival NPCs. The player's vehicle features an ultra detailed shadow effect that has been modeled to closely resemble the car's bodywork, while rival cars feature a more basic mesh that also casts realistic shadows depending on the light source. Even more impressive are the dynamic nighttime shadows, which are cast dynamically depending on the distance from streetlights. At night, the player’s car can project two highly detailed dynamic shadows simultaneously, and rival cars feature one dynamic shadow that also moves realistically depending on the distance from the light source. Shadows feature no transparency however.
