How to Plumb & Wire a Jerry Can Van Sink System (12V Pump + Tap Setup) | Ford Transit Van Build

In this episode, I install the full plumbing + wiring for my van sink using a jerry can water storage setup (2 × fresh water, 1 × grey water) stored under the sink cabinet. I lay out the entire system step-by-step, show the exact plumbing order from jerry can → strainer → pump → tap, and wire the pump back to my dual battery with the correct wire size, fuse protection, and an isolating rocker switch on the front of the cabinet.

This one took me weeks of research to find the right fittings and make a system that’s simple, serviceable, and actually works in a tight cabinet space. If you’re building a campervan and want an easy DIY water setup without a permanent tank, this is a solid budget-friendly option you can copy and adapt.

🛠️ PRODUCTS USED

Jerry can water storage (2 × fresh, 1 × grey under-sink)

Kitchen tap + hot/cold flex lines (merged into one feed)

Nylon olive T / tee splitter (to combine hot + cold into one line)

Reinforced food-grade pressure hose (pump-rated — NOT regular tube)

12V pressure pump

50 mesh inlet strainer (pump protection)

Hose tail/barb fittings (incl. 1/2" hose × 1/2" BSB male tailpiece)

Hose clamps (for all tailpiece connections)

PTFE thread tape (thread sealing)

DIY jerry can lid fitting (irrigation fitting + spacer + barrel union)

Rocker switch (pump isolation on cabinet)

Spade terminals + ring/eye terminals

Fuse block connection + 10A fuse (as per pump manual)

Drill + 22mm hole saw (jerry can lid fitting)

Wire stripper + crimper (terminals)

Screwdrivers / spanners (fittings + hose clamps)

Basic hand tools (pump mounting + cable routing)
