Authors Dick Gross AM and Susan Berg host the show with contributions from Poet Hamish Danks Brown and the occasional guest writer for interviews, new releases, and live performances.


In this show, Educator and Author Elizabeth Flann explains to Dick and Susan how the options for learning writing has opened up since her early days and we give an idea of some of the learning institutions. Hamish chats with poet and performer Steve Smart.

Elizabeth Flann
Elizabeth worked for over twenty years in the publishing industry before moving into tertiary education to teach editing, scriptwriting and literature to postgraduate students. She is the co-author of The Australian Editing Handbook, and completed a PhD in 2001 entitled Celluloid Dreaming: Cultural Myths and Landscape in Australian Film 1970-1990. Now retired from teaching, she is able to give full rein to her true love: writing fiction. She lives by a lovely beach in Victoria with a cat and extended family. Beware of Dogs is her first novel.

Steve Smart – Poet/Performer
Steve is a Footscray based poet who has a long history of both page and stage work and is the current President of Melbourne Poets Union. Steve has performed anywhere, from the outhouse to the Opera House, to any venue with a mic. As a poet Steve has been described as ‘Melbourne’s rockstar of performance poetry’ – (Perth Poetry Club), “wildly funny to deeply moving’ (Simon Leo Brown – abc.net.au) and ‘a raw, seething, hardcore poet who makes the rest of us look spineless’ (Amanda Anastasi – melbournespokenword.com).
