STORYLINE:
Firefighters pumped out flooded basements in Austria as torrential rain continued to hit the eastern part of the country.

The situation was especially difficult in Pottenbrunn, a village outside Sankt Pölten in Lower Austria.

Major flooding across Central Europe has led to the deaths of at least five people in Poland and one in the Czech Republic, where seven others are missing.

The floods have also killed six in Romania and one in Austria.

Weather forecasts predict the downpours will subside Monday night.
