SCUD Race - Beginner (Night)

This... is undiluted nostalgia for me. Without consoles as a kid, I pretty much grew up in my local arcade, and this undoubtedly the one I put most hours in. I cannot possibly tell you just how much I love this game; and now I can play it at will at home. I cannot perform nearly as well as I could at the arcade, of course, but still, the fact I can play it is welcomed dearly. I probably could also do better by using the McLaren, which is quite possible on this track, but I'm so used to the Ferrari here it feels weird not using it.

This game is astonishing for a number of reasons. For one, it's year of release. This came out in 1996. 1996, with those graphics, and as the first game on the Sega Model 3 board. For motorsports fans, consider this game was actually licensed by BPR! It is THAT ancient, and yet, to me, it looks fantastic tot his day.

Also, that pit stop was not just for show. Surprisingly, this goes does feature tire wear, and it really does come into play as will be obvious in the next video. Without it, I'd have found myself lapping 2-3 seconds slower and be at a much greater risk of crashing; where by pitting, I can take advantage of the game's catch-up with fresh rubber and not run the risk of being left in the dust at the end.
