Tactic without spike traps.

Use stone skin and haste on you before the fight starts.

Now lure the ice salamanders to Abazigal and cast the level 8 spell "incendiary cloud". After that, cast the level 6 spell "death fog", to speed the things up.

After the salamanders are dead, summon 3 "Mordenkaine's Sword", because they are immune to the lightning damage or the damage at all what Abazigal deals, but they can not really damage him, so it's only for keeping him busy.

Now use hardiness on yourself and after that, improved haste. Hit him until he turns to a dragon.

Now use breach 2x to get sure, his defense is down. Use greater whirlwind to kill him fast.

It can be, that the swords die, that's not really good, better restart the save game then, he hits really hard and purges your magic off all the time.
