Описание к видео Scarlet Lily beetle - Liljubjalla - Skordýr - Bjöllur

Red lily beetle - Lilioceris lilii - Liljubjalla - Liljubjöllur eru rauðar með svartan hvið, fætur og haus. Fálmarar eru svartir með hvítum þverrákum.

Scarlet Lily beetle found in my garden.

Red lily beetle and its larvae are leaf-eating pests of lilies and fritillaries. The adult beetles occasionally eat other plants but lilies and fritillaries are the only plants on which they will lay eggs and the grubs can develop. Apart from spoiling the plants' appearance, damaging attacks in early summer will result in undersized bulbs developing, which may not flower next year. Lily beetle has become widespread in the UK over the past three decades. Red lily beetle overwinters as adult beetles in soil, leaf litter and other sheltered places. This could be anywhere, not necessarily in the vicinity of lilies and fritillaries (consequently, there is no advantage in attempting to treat the soil below lily plants). The beetles begin emerging on sunny days in late March and April when they seek out the foliage of host plants. Eggs are laid in small batches on the underside of leaves during April to mid-summer. The eggs hatch and the larvae feed on the foliage. When fully fed, the larvae go into the soil to pupate. The next generation of adult beetles emerges from mid-summer onwards. These beetles add to the feeding damage but there is only one generation a year and these late summer adults will not mate and lay eggs until the following year. The adult lily leaf beetle is scarlet red on top and black underneath. It's just under a half-inch long and has an elongated body with relatively long legs and long antennae. Though these adults do feed on the foliage, their primary concern is to reproduce. If you see the adult beetles, it is very likely that you'll also be able to find egg masses on the undersides of the leaves. The red-orange to brown eggs are tiny and laid in narrow, irregular rows. The adult beetle overwinters in the soil or plant debris and emerges in early spring looking for food and a mate. After mating, the female lays eggs in lines on the underside of Lilium or Fritillaria leaves. Some damage is done by the adults at this time, but the major damage comes when the eggs hatch into larvae in 7-10 days. The larvae voraciously consume all leaves within reach and may then start on flower buds. This continues for 2 to 3 weeks, when the larvae then drop into the soil and begin to pupate. In another 2 to 3 weeks the adult beetles emerge to start eating again. This process occurs from early spring to mid-summer. Reportedly the beetles won't mate and lay eggs until the next spring.
