JOKER 2 Folie a Deux - Why THAT Ending Works - Spoiler Review

The Joker 2 has one of the more divisive endings of ANY comic book movie. But I personally think the ending of Folie A Deux is fitting to cement this, and the first Joker as.. not "comic book movies". And I think I like that about them. Diving into my FULL SPOILER REVIEW of Joker: Folie A Deux discussing the entirety of the film, (and it's performances from Joaquin Pheonix and Lady Gaga) but mainly focusing on that bold third act.

Also acknowledging that Joker wouldn't have likely gotten made as a Taxi Driver Martin Scorsese esque take on a generic failed comedian, and a lavish, practical set, enormous, vaudevillian musical wouldn't have gotten made In 2024 without "Joker" and "Harley Quinn" in it.

I don't think Todd Philipps decision to leave DC after this was a coincidence. I would have loved to seen a DC Black Label of sorts but I'm not sure this was ever the way to bring that about.

Joker: Folie à Deux[a] is a 2024 American musical psychological thriller film directed by Todd Phillips from a screenplay he co-wrote with Scott Silver. Loosely based on DC Comics characters, it is the sequel to Joker (2019) and stars Joaquin Phoenix reprising his role as the titular character, with Lady Gaga joining as his love interest Harley Quinn. Zazie Beetz, Leigh Gill, and Sharon Washington also reprise their roles from the previous film, while Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Steve Coogan, and Harry Lawtey join the cast. It is produced by Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios in association with Joint Effort.

Joker was conceived as a standalone film, although Warner Bros. intended the film to launch a DC Black film series. Phillips expressed interest in making a sequel. The sequel entered development in June 2022, with Gaga and Beetz joining later that year. Principal photography took place in New York City, Los Angeles, and Belleville, New Jersey, from December 2022 to April 2023.

Joker: Folie à Deux premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival on September 4, 2024,[7] and was released in the United States on October 4, 2024. It received generally negative reviews from critics and audiences.
