The Main Line of Sri Lanka Railways is a 290.5 km railway line that runs from Colombo (Maradana) to Badulla. It is the backbone of the Sri Lankan railway network and serves as a crucial transportation link for both passengers and freight. The line passes through several major cities and towns, including Ragama, Gampaha, Veyangoda, Mirigama, Alawwa, Polgahawela, and Rambukkana, before entering the hill country and reaching its summit at Pattipola, 6,226 feet above sea level.
