Both Samantha (TikTok: Morm With Those Who Mormed) and Kate (YouTube: Two Nomos, Instagram: Midlife Exmo) are former LDS mothers of transgender sons who ultimately walked away from Mormonism because of the church’s extreme prejudice toward the LGBTQ+ community—especially trans people. In this episode, they share what it was like to be “all in” Orthodox Mormons, how they first reacted when their kids came out, and the painful but powerful journey from compliance with the Church Handbook to fully affirming their children’s names, pronouns, and lives.

Kate tells the story of her son Theo coming out as trans, the moment she realized she’d been denying him love and safety, and how that realization launched her faith crisis and exit from the church. Samantha digs into the LDS Church’s legal fight against trans protections, the weaponization of “religious freedom,” purity culture, and how grooming, consent, and abuse are minimized while queer kids are demonized. Together, they talk candidly about suicide risk, medical transition, political fear-mongering, and what real Christlike love would actually look like for trans kids and their families.
