UNEMPLOYMENT, SECOND STIMULUS CHECK & PACKAGE UPDATE 10/24/2020 (DEADLINE PASSED. NOW WHAT?)

Unemployment $600 per week FPUC ended in July. Since there has only been 3 to 6 weeks of $300 LWA from the president’s executive memorandum. Now the PUA and PEUC expirations are coming up December 31. Currently Steve Mnuchin and Pelosi have agreed on FPUC retroactively applied from September 2020 until January 2021. The amount is still TBD, but it will likely be between $400 and $600 per week. Also, the CDC’s eviction moratorium is set to expire that same day and the eligibility requirement for that are the same as the stimulus checks.

You should receive another round of $1200 checks, with the same eligibility requirements. Those on SSI SSDI SS VA RR will collect this. The amount per dependent is not determined, it'll be either $500 or $1000. Also, it is likely checks will be garnished for child support.

Steve Mnuchin has returned from the middle east. Now we are seeing what feels like a step backward as Mnuchin and Pelosi are yet again blaming each other for delays. When asked by MSNBC on Friday if a deal could be struck, Pelosi said “We could do that before the election, if the president wants to.” Mnuchin said “We’ve offered compromises, the speaker, on a number of issues, is still dug in. If she wants to compromise, there will be a deal.” Although they are blaming each other they remain optimistic a deal can be reached and we also heard mark meadows say “Hopefully we can get a deal in the next day or so, We’re still working through it, Secretary Mnuchin and I have talked and we’re still working with her teams, but actually making adjustments and trying to look at language to reach a compromise.”

We are looking to them to reach a deal as this week we saw the $500 billion skinny bill presented in the Senate denied. It was a party line vote blocked by Democrats and it was reported Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi informed all Democrats not to vote for it as it undermined stimulus negotiations between Nancy and Steve and all followed instructions with not one democrat voting in favor of the skinny bill which would have provided enhanced unemployment, PPP and liability protection for businesses.

Trump has called for Republicans to reach a deal, and wants stimulus checks and another stimulus package so that it can provide aid as well as help his chances in the polls however with less than two weeks from November elections it is looking unlikely provisions or even a deal may happen before elections. Motivations could drastically change after elections it will totally depend on the results. Currently congress is divided Republican President and Senate with a Democratic House. If we can have a complete Republican or complete Democratic President, House and Senate it is likely things will happen right away. Even if Biden becomes the new president if we have divided congress we still might be in the same uncompromising situation as we currently are.

Here is what we know so far…
It will likely be a minimum of $2 trillion up to potentially $2.4 trillion.
There will be a second round of $1200 stimulus checks with the same eligibility as before.
There will be enhanced unemployment benefits likely between $400 to $600 per week from September 2020 to January 2021.
Additional funding for PPP
There will be a national testing and tracing strategy.
There will be school funding; we don’t have an amount yet
There will be state and local government funding, (R- $300B D-$417B)
We are unsure about liability protection for businesses
Families with child dependents: Tax credits or more in stimulus checks
