A competition you can do on your own is tossing a ball and seeing how many line drives in a row you can hit to the back of the net. Here's some things it can help with:

1)Hand eye coordination
2)Controlled load. Don't rush to get the hands back so fast which means it need to be a controlled toss in order to get into a proper load.
3)Keeping hands up
4)Making contact on the ball to where you can create some backspin while not getting completely under the ball.
