Battle Beasts is a line of small 2" action figures developed by Hasbro and Takara in 1987. Battle beasts were sold in America and several other countries by Hasbro. In Japan they were distributed by Takara under the name BeastFormers. Battle Beasts were anthropomorphized animals with brightly-painted futuristic battle armor and weapons. Each figure has a heat sensitive rub sign on his/her chest. It was of the same type designed by Hasbro for Transformers. Each rubsign reveals an icon for either fire (flame), water (waves), or wood (log). Fire figures defeat Wood (fire burns wood), Water defeats Fire (dousing the flame), and Wood defeats Water (by floating on it). Because each figure's icon was randomized like figures could have different icons. Where you could see which figure was being purchased, you would not know the icon until opening the package. Several vehicles and playsets were also released. Hasbro released 3 waves of figures. Totaling 76 unique Beasts. Takara released a further 36 figures in Japan called "Laser Beasts".
