Day 2 of my canoe journey on the River Stour, paddling upstream from Cattawade toward Sudbury and back again.

Today’s paddle took me from Lamarsh Weir almost as far as Brundon Mill, before turning back downstream to Mill Lade near Nayland. Progress was steady but hard-earned, with the river continuing to demand patience and effort.

Along the way, I ran the weirs at Shalford and Lamarsh, capturing the moments with drone footage that shows just how narrow and lively these sections of the Stour can be. As the day drew to a close, I settled into a peaceful hammock camp — a welcome reward after a full day on the water.

This stretch of the river really highlights why the Stour is such a rewarding place to paddle: quiet, characterful, and never quite as easy as it first appears.
