I took the WHOLE of December off work, and used it to learn elaborate wrapping up techniques!

As an autistic person I have always struggled with the transition between working and not working. The 'break' that is restful to some is stressful to me because of the change involved to my routine in taking it.

I think I have hit upon a routine that might work for me: 11 months on, 1 month off. Lots of rest but not many changes - perfect - for me!

There are lots of different working patterns: the standard 9-5 Mon - Fri, the new four day week, shift patterns, etc. A way of accommodating autistic people is to understand that extensions to these could be useful. A way of offering autistic people understanding is to realise that a weekend, a half term, a holiday, might not be the restful experience it is billed to be, it might be a stressful challenge, lots of change to routine.

Mitigate by creating routines to weekends, holidays. By providing clear timetables to what is happening in these often unstructured and flexible times.
