So Doom VFR, what a miss step. Released with only teleport(unless you use a gamepad?!?!?!?!?), not working on the Rift (ooh that's a surprise :P Zenimax) with crashes on launch and a host of other issues, not a great start. Steam kindly patched SteamVR to allow Rift users back into the game which was nice of them & then modders came to the smooth locomotion rescue(kind of). As of yet, no words from the Devs or publisher concerning patching the game which is kind of sad.

As you can see, I ran the Rift related mod(below for details) which at first made the game playable but quickly I started to get a bit of a funny gut. Now I'm a Smooth Loco purest and can quite happily play all other titles for hours but not in this case & I think I know why. So the Mod on the Rift maps the analogue stick on the left controller to the keyboard controls. This means there are no fine movements, your either flying along at 100% or pretty much not moving & when this is combined with the direction dictated by your head orientation(most games have it linked to the left(non dominant) controller I find it quite puke inducing. There must be away to at least map the left analogue stick to the joystick input but I've not found it yet but even then you would still be stuck with moving in the direction your looking :(

There may well be some other mods, you will just have to hunt for them

So what can I say, the game needs to be fixed but I'm not sure it will be. The game itself was outsourced so neither ID or Bethesda had much of a hand in it & it looks like Bethesda have annoyed even more people with FallOut 4 VR (I've not tried it yet, not really a fan :P) but for completely different reasons so they will have their hands full with that. It's all very sad & doesn't help VR when large companies and publishers release untested, high priced software which have to be modded to make them playable.... oh wait a second, this is Bethesda isn't it :(

Oh I forgot, the hands are at wonky angles which I guess is the cherry on top :D
