When CMV and EBV go rogue

What are the problems for transplant recipients with CMV and EBV infection? How should you best deal with them?

Transplant patients, especially those who have had a lung and/or heart transplantation, often suffer from cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection. CMV can negatively impact the clinical outcome after transplantation, ultimately harming the chances of survival of both the graft and the host.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is another herpesvirus that frequently triggers problems, causing post-transplant lymphoproliferative disease (PTLD), a major complication in transplant recipients. Management of PTLD is problematic due to difficulties with its diagnosis, prevention and treatment.

In this webinar, expert panellists Paolo Solidoro and Markus J. Barten discuss the common sequelae of CMV and EBV infections after thoracic transplantation and centre-specific clinical experiences when managing these infections. Christine Falk acts as the moderator for the webinar.
