M2-PK (M2 Pyruvate Kinase) is measured in feces, is a tumor marker for colorectal cancer.
The detection of M2-PK does not depend on blood in the stool and is specifically related to changes in tumor metabolism.
The M2-PK test is a non-invasive stool test that can be used for the early detection of colorectal cancers and polyps which are known to be the precursors of colorectal cancer.
The concentration of M2PK in the feces correlates with the severity of colorectal cancer. It has a sensitivity of 81% and a specificity of 80%.
This test can act as the first step in early detection of colon cancer in men and women.
