Meet Avtar
Avtar: Hi, my name is Avtar and I’m an inspector with the probation Inspectorate. I lead teams at the Inspectorate and also produce reports.

Why do you like working for the Inspectorate?
Avtar: One of the best decisions I’ve ever made was to join the Inspectorate. It’s an organisation that is working so hard to improve probation service delivery. It’s surrounded by a group of people who are genuine, authentic, have integrity and work together as a brilliant team.

How did you come to work at the Inspectorate?
Avtar: Well, my journey into the Inspectorate wasn’t really planned. I qualified as a probation officer in Thames Valley and remained in that role for a number of years before going into training, learning and development. And it was whilst I was there, that I came across a number of inspectors who encouraged me to apply for a role in the Inspectorate and I am so glad that I did it.

What excites you about work at the Inspectorate?
Avtar: One of the things that I’m really excited about is that at the Inspectorate, we are working so hard to improve on our inspection work around equality and diversity and inclusion. But additionally, we are trying to increase the profile of staff from other backgrounds because this is cutting edge stuff and we need to do a lot better.
