There are a few things you must have with you at all times in my opinion.

Must Haves:

1.Some type of carrying apparatus.

This sounds a bit common sensical but you need a way to carry your stuff. This can be as elaborate or simple as you want it to be. I personally carry an old Cincinnati Reds insulated lunch box.

It holds everything I need. Some are made especially for diabetes supply and run from $8 to $80 depending on how nice you want to go. Amazon has some very good stuff, but so does Walmart.

2.Diabetes medicines.

This is a difficult question as far as meds go. This will totally depend on your insurance, what meds you take, etc. My suggestion is find a pharmacy that will fill 90 day supplies.

They are usually much cheaper. Of course, your doctor will have to write the scripts for 90 days. I would caution you about mail order med services. Many are good and but there is always that one time you need your meds and they haven’t arrived.

It will be worth looking for a pharmacy, even if it’s a bit of a drive, that you can trust. Also, Walmart does have some diabetes meds on their $4 list.That is not 90 days, but it is the cheapest you will find for 30 day supplies.

3. Glucometer and supplies.

For many people, your doctor or pharmacist will give you a glucometer. That is because the glucometer itself isn’t super expensive. But the strips are! Sometimes it is worth buying a glucometer because the strips for a certain one may be less expensive.

There is a website called glucomart.com that has a lot of different testing supplies. There are also many websites out there that offer very competitive prices for test strips.

You should always have emergency snacks in your kit, you can buy those anywhere you choose.

The important thing is to have a kit and carry it with you at all times.
