After Joseph Smith died, the question of who should succeed him became paramount. Joseph hadn’t left clear instructions, and several break-off sects emerged. The majority of Latter-day Saints (sometimes called Mormons) supported the leadership of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. But some people thought that Joseph had indicated that his young son, Joseph Smith III, would one day lead the Church. In this episode, Dave talks about how that situation panned out in the years following Joseph’s murder.
