In this video, I look at what would happen if US Presidents were Elected by a Conclave instead of simple majority by the Electoral College. What if all 538 members of the Electoral College had to meet in the same location, and in that location, they were cut off from the outside world until they elected a new President by Two-Thirds Supermajority? Just like the Papal Conclave, they would burn all the ballots until a president was elected by the Electoral College. This may give a lot more independence to the electors of the electoral college, so would that process be better, or would it be worse than what we have now? I try to find out.
Rules of the Presidential Conclave
1. All electors meet in the same place
2. 2/3 Supermajority vote required.
Electors will vote 4 times a day until a president is named
Congress does not choose a president unless more than
one person get a 2/3 majority.
3. There will be a vice president
4. Conclaves take place 3 months after death/resignation,
of the previous president. So campaigns last 2 months
5. All ballots that don't reach 2/3 supermajority are burned
