Can a brushed RC motor hit 40 miles an hour? In this episode, I take you behind the scenes as I swap out a dead brushed motor, install a new Spectrum Firma motor from Horizon Hobby, and chase that 40 MPH goal. Along the way, I’ll show you how to remove and replace your motor, check your spur and pinion gear mesh, and troubleshoot some of the common issues that come up when pushing brushed systems to their limits.
Unfortunately, my old motor was completely shot, and the spur gear didn’t survive the test run — but that’s all part of the RC adventure! I’ll share what I learned about brushed vs. brushless setups, why a heatsink won’t fit on this rig, and what upgrades I’m trying next (including a new steel spur gear).
