As waters surged past doorways and engulfed ground‑level units, residents were forced out in the nick of time, abandoning soaked furniture, books, and cherished belongings behind with every inch of flooring decayed and mold creeping up walls, the property was swiftly sealed off, left to the elements.

Yet surrender didn’t mean emptiness. Before long, individuals without shelter began filtering in. Inside these crumbling townhomes, makeshift kitchens emerged amidst the ruin—mattresses litter the floors, scattered clothing lines tell silent stories, and personal effects pepper the hallways. These walls, once echoes of student laughter and late-night study, now bear witness to lives reborn in hardship.

It’s a stark demonstration of how, in the aftermath of catastrophe, even the most modern residential enclave can transform—overnight—into a fragile refuge for those in need.
